In Regina's Words

"I had to flee Africa because Congo was too dangerous for me. I prayed to know where to go. God said in my heart, 'America.' It's in the Bible, 'Wherever you put your leg shall be yours.' This is a beautiful country. Here there is freedom. All I want is to be a citizen of this beautiful country where God sent me."

save regina bakala

In this great country of the United States, we both cherish and take for granted our freedoms. Others come here to escape torture and repression and to live each day smiling, enjoying new found freedoms.

Step 1 was a huge success!
Seven immigration lawyers said it would not happen, but miraculously, Regina was saved from imminent deportation to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) when her case was reopened!

Regina, a torture victim, was snatched from her family during Holy Week, 2005, and jailed for 11 weeks. Her appeal had been denied in 2002 but she was never told! Read her story. Thanks to your many prayers, advocacy and donations and the excellent work of Attorney Mary L. Sfasciotti, Regina is back at home and work, awaiting the new hearing.

Save the family

Step 2 can save the family!
The Board of Appeals linked Regina's case to that of David, who was also severely tortured. He has Withholding of Removal. Recently, the asylum portion of his case was also reopened. If he gets asylum, she gets it!
Lydia (6) and Christopher (5) are American citizens.

Pray for this miracle: Full asylum for Regina and David!
